Jeff, Doc here, your friend's 280Z sounds like he has a torn rubber boot
that goes from the airflow meter to the throttle chamber. The other thing
to check is the throttle switch. There are three wires going into it, and
it is located on the outside of the intake manifold at the throttle chamber.
The center wire to the rear is the idle contact, and the front and the center
are the full enrichment ones, that should have continuity when the throttle
is past about 1/3 of the travel. You can test them with a DVOM. Make sure
that these connectors are clean and not Green! If they are corroded you
must clean them and flush with something like WD-40. I hope that this helps
you solve the problems, and with God's Grace you will solve the problems.
Let me know how you are doing....

JEFF HERE,
FRIEND OF MINE HAS A '75 280 AND HE SAYS AT 3,000 RPMS THE CAR REVERTS
BACK TO IDLE AND WON'T ACCELERATE ANY FURTHER. IT DOESN'T MATTER WHAT GEAR
IT DOES IT IN ALL. DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEAS ON WHAT TO LOOK FOR, I TOLD HIM
TO LOOK FOR SOME INTAKE LEAKS AROUND THE MAPS SENSOR.
