Doc,
His point is that you get less oil reaching the #6 position in the engine
(I think he was referring to the bearings?). He does say that the engines
are extremely reliable, like you say, and when he has seen one fail, it
was always due to lack of oil at the #6 position.
So far, my Z, with 71K on it seems OK. Although I found a real curious
orange coloration on the cam shaft (not on a lobe, fortunately), next to
the #2 cam lobe. My thought is that it may be caused by a clogged oiler
tube. I cleaned the hell out of it before it was reinstalled.
It just seemed to make a lot of sense to make sure enough oil got to the
back of the engine.

Marty, Doc here, the only reason that you could have a problem with #6 is
if you run it low on oil. With minor modifications you could be in race
prep with stock factory parts........ If you are still worried you can
replace the oil pump springs with the higher pressure ones to bump the pressure
up, by simply removing the pressure relief cap on the oil pump, and installing
the springs.................
