Randy, Doc here, I understand that you are upgrading your 280Z with ZX
Turbo running gear. A ZONC Club Member, Mark Owen, has done this conversion
on his 1971 240Z. Mark has the 350 V-8 Chevrolet drive train and he reports
that it works very well. Mark's phone number is
209-358-MARK, (6275).
From the best understanding that I have, you require late 82-83 280ZX Turbo
axle flanges that are the companion to the constant velocity axles and bolt
up to the R-200 differentials. There is another "Z-nut" in my
area that has a 280Z that I will check on the spacers needed to seal the
stub axles.
From the sounds of it you will have to work out the little things that you
described as noises that you are attempting to remove. Do you have the Turbo
5 speed transmission?
Please get back to me if you need some clarification, or more assistance.
You are only in Modesto, and Mariposa is pretty close if you want to come
up to the mountains and SEE THE SUN! As far as the the heater core, refer
to the Datsun Factory Service Manual, since there is no real shortcut, and
the center unit must be removed to get to the heater core. Have you pressure
tested the cooling system? Many times a "Z" of your vintage will
have a leaking heater control valve or hose and not the core, so test the
thing FIRST for the correct diagnosis.
I hope that this will help you..........

I have heard of some early type Z Cars using 280ZXT rear end & cv
axles for when a more powerful engine was swapped in. Are the noise and
vibration from this set up less? I swapped in a 280ZXT engine and computor/harness
into my 77. It seems like after I fix the noises, more come back; also is
there a short cut to getting the heater core out? The car has factory A/C
and it works. Respond on the ZONC site. I will read it there.
Thanks,
