Scotty, Doc here, yes you need to disassemble the transmission and have
special tools to replace the bearings. Grindings from the reverse idler
are the culprit to the rear countershaft bearing failure in the transmissions.
I have a different approach to rectify this situation when I rebuild the
transmissions. There are some other variations in the 5 speeds through
the
years to have the final upgrade. I hope that this helps you...
